Your country needs you!

With the Euro elections fast approaching on the 4th of June 2009, the message to all in the North West, not just in East Lancashire, is simple:

USE YOUR VOTE or wake up to the Nick Griffin nightmare!

The leader of the BNP, Nick Griffin, is standing as a candidate for the North West.  The vast majority of the British public reject racism in politics, and deplore BNP ideas such as 'voluntary resettlement' of non whites.  Such views have no place in British public life.  Griffin, has also been convicted of incitement to racial hatred.

The Euro elections on the 4th of June 2009 will use a particular system of proportional representation which basically means that small parties like the BNP have a chance of getting a seat with a meagre 7.5% to 9% share of the vote. The only way to counter this is to increase voter turnout which will make it harder for the BNP to get in.

Now, I know, Euro elections don't usually get the pulses racing, but this time the stakes are high.  My message to all readers is that whatever your political persuausion PLEASE make your vote count to counter the BNP threat.  The more votes for legitimate parties (like Labour-well I had to slip that in!) the harder for Griffin and his revolting followers to get the required share of the vote.

We must not allow the BNP to divide our communities, and instead the message from the North West should be HOPE NOT HATE!

Make sure you:

1) Register to vote! You can do this at the About My Vote website or by phoning your local council  (in Blackburn 01254 585920).  The deadline for voter registration is the 19th of May 2009.

2) Get involved to spread the word! In Blackburn, contact Blackburn and Darwen United Against Racism (BADUAR) tel  07821 579911 to see what you can do to help raise awareness. The group is non political  and requires volunteers. Other groups throughout the North West are listed here.

3) Remember the date is Thursday 4 June and get a postal vote if you will be on holiday! You can apply for a postal vote online here and you do not have to give a reason why.
