2008 wasn't a good year for many folk, I can't see 2009 being anything other than worse.
Mistakes have been made. Banks giving, almost forcing young people, right at the beginning of their working lives to take on 115% or whatever mortgages is just plain daft. Worse than daft if their first little home's now worth 20% less.
Mistakes have been made. We need to learn from them lots & quickly. We also mustn't fall entirely into a blame culture. Banks, their lavishly "rewarded" executives & others may deserve being blamed but we don't need blame layers now, we need problem solvers.
This is why we're looking at Blackburn College, where I Chair the governing body, at putting together packages of measures to help people get back into work of back on their own two feet.
Watch this space. We hope there'll be short courses, seminars & other measures, very action outcome based to help!
