Councillor Vicky McGurk

Vicky has been Councillor for the area since 2016 and was brought up on the Higher Croft estate. Vicky was previously an Executive Member of the East Lancashire Women’s Centre and employed at a senior level within the Department for Work and Pensions and the Skills Founding Agency. Vicky has a real passion for the youth and in particular NEET and youth unemployment.

Councillor Jim Shorrock

Jim was elected to the Council in 2004, representing Shadsworth with Whitebirk Ward, and more recently Blackburn Southeast. He also serves as a school governor for both Shadsworth Infants and Junior schools. Jim is a RAF veteran and has run several pubs throughout the Borough, including The Horseshoe in Darwen, The Globe Inn and The Courts Hotel. Jim served as treasurer and chair of Daniel Thwaites Tenants Association in the mid 1990’s, and as a member of Blackburn Licensed Victuallers as well as North-West parliamentary representative for the Federation of Licensed Victuallers Associations. In 2001, Jim then took up a new career with ISS Facility Services Ltd serving in several job roles, including most recently as a training manager.

Councillor Tony Humphrys

Officially classed as Blackburn South East’s newest Councillor, having been elected to the ward at the 2021 local elections, Councillor Tony Humphrys is well known having served Shadsworth with Whitebirk Ward, and Shadsworth before that since 1992. Tony left the Council briefly, when there was a major ward boundary change in the Borough, but returned this year, with a large part of the new ward covering the previous Shadsworth ward. Having held a number of senior Council positions, including Executive Member for Housing, Tony is also a former Mayor of the Borough. As well as this, Tony is well known in Higher Croft, having been a postman in the area for 14 years.
