Akhtar has lived in the Shear Brow area for almost his whole life. He ran a successful business on Whalley Range for many years and since retirement has lived on Shear Bank Road. He is widely known and respected within the local community, having dealt with countless cases over a Council career of decades.

Zainab is an active volunteer with the Keep Blackburn Tidy initiative, and regularly takes part in community litter picks to support the message that through positive action we can all help with improving the environment and creating communities where residents take more ownership and pride in their own areas. Through her previous employment within the NHS, Housing, and private companies Zainab has a range of experience attending a range of formal board meetings, forums, and conferences.
